Literární a historická soutěž Daniel / Literature and History Writing Competition DANIEL

The competition was founded in 2004 and is dedicated to the Holocaust and its reflection, racial problems today, and the issue of coexistence of different ethnic groups in the Czech Republic. The purpose of competition is to attract young people to Holocaust issues, multiculturalism, xenophobia and to reflect on themselves and were able to create your own opinion on them.

Výroční knižní Ceny Magnesia Litera / Magnesia Litera Book Awards

The aim of the annual Magnesia Litera Book Award is to find and promote the best books from the previous year. The award is presented by an independent body consisting of the following members: Academy of Science of the Czech Republic, Czech Centre of International P.E.N., Czech section of IBBY, Writers’ Guild, Translators‘ Guild, Czech Literary Fund Foundation, and Association of Czech Booksellers and Publishers.

Prizes are awarded in 9 categories at the evening ceremony in the Prague City Library. Czech Television broadcasts the ceremony live. Website in Czech and some information in English.

Cena Maxe Broda / Max Brod Prize

The Franz Kafka Society organizes a student literary competition, the Max Brod Prize awarded for the best essay with both the aim and idea of supporting and encouraging the young people to independent thinking, deeper reflection about actual complicated social and cultural phenomenon, as well as cultivation of ability of precise and sophisticated written expression of their own opinion. This aim should be accomplished by the choice of the themes the young people are about to think. There is also included a literary theme that should help the contestants to being oriented to reading and independent interpretation of literary works. The prize was named after Max Brod, the famous person of the Central European culture, the writer and thinker, a tireless organizer of cultural life in the Czech countries and Israel. Soutěž s nakladatelstvím Mezera / Mezera Publishing House Writing Competition

The Mezera Publishing House organizes this annual writing competition. Every year on November 30, at least one winner will be selected whose text will be translated and illustrated. Exceptional works of young Czech and Slovak authors will be published in the new edition of the “Bez hranic (Without Borders)”. The publications will be published in three languages (Czech-Slovak/English) and distributed in the Czech Republic and abroad. There is entry deadline for submissions to the contest. Only in Czech.
